Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Blathell had always loved to fight. While his brothers and sisters wandered and played together, he would travel away from the camp of his DragonKeeper and hunt animals twice his size.

Soon, he traveled further, knocking into caves of mature dragons when he was still a hatchling, challenging others. His interruption one day awakened a most irritable dragon. With sharpened claws and armored scales, Blathell had never seen his kind before.

Confident, he challenged him on the spot. The old dragon nodded once in acceptance of the challenge. Before Blathell could even attack, however, he was thrown onto the ground, a claw curving into his neck. Awaiting the death blow that he thought was sure to come, the hatchling was surprised when the older dragon chuckled and pulled away.

"Oh, to be young." said he.

At Blathell's coming of age ceremony, along with his brothers, sisters, and DragonKeeper, there was an older dragon, one black and cream, with sharpened claws and armored scales.
