Gold dragons are the ones most often killed by humans, who consider their scales to be extremely valuable. These golden scales grant them a high level of protection, similar to armor, and they use this to their advantage in battle.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Targus is one of the more respectable males in the cave. He is a gentlemen to the females, polite to his superiors and gracious to his enemies. He has no mate but, the male knows he could have any female in the cave if he wanted them. They flock around him as if he were the last male in the cave and some of the other males have grown jealous. The Duke, however, knows better than to take another males mate and prefers to look for his own. When he isn't looking for the right female, he is on sentry duty for the cave and alarms the defenders in the time of an attack.
