Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Whenever Mai the Singing Goddess is spotted, typically in one lady's home in a village, beautiful songs can be heard from miles in an unearthly voice. These songs seem to attract many dragons of different species and even the occasional human. There are neighbors of the lady that believe the songs are of her own creation for Mai, as she is known to the other dragons, is known to have a fiery temper. Combined with a talent for battle magic, her reputation has grown to a point that she is known for little else other than her temper and her battle magic. However, there are a few who have had the privilege of hearing her sing, and these people unanimously agree that Mai deserves the name of the Singing Goddess for her talent in music.
