Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

HonestBrightFin is a purple Dorsal Dragon hatchling who loves to play. He's always involved in one game or another with the other hatchlings in his cave. He doesn't often win, but he sure has a lot of fun doing it. Just about the only time he isn't playing is while he sleeps. However, he does dream about playing most nights, which surely counts.
