Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Blue Imagination is a gloomy hatchling with an extraordinary imagination. Despite his unhappy state, he is often telling original stories to his friends or drawing unique pictures on the cave wall. His reasons for being sad are unknown, although some believe he is upset about being abandoned when he was an egg. This possibility is likely as he appears to be very sensitive, and his longing for a mother is evident when he observes other dragons with a faraway look in his eye. Blue Imagination uses his creativity as an outlet for his hurt feelings, as well as a tool to bring joy to himself and others.
