Guardian Dragons have large shields on the end of their tails. Although the shields appear to be heavy, they are light, yet nearly unbreakable. Guardian Dragons use their tail-shields, as well as their wings, to deflect attacks and protect others. Often, they will guard the eggs and hatchlings of a nest while others are away. They are generally peaceful, and will not retaliate unless necessary. They have no need to forage or hunt, as they are fed by those they protect.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Zashchita often gets challenges from other dragons who mock and tease her, because she is a female Guardian Dragon. But she is as strong as the other Guardians of her clan, if not stronger. She is overly defensive, and would take on anyone to defend friends and family. She was a tiny hatchling compared to her two brothers. She was shy, unlike the others. Her mother treated her brothers highly and neglected her. She came very close to becoming a Neglected Dragon as an egg. Her father, Vysoka, loved Zashchita very much, and taught her to stay strong. Two months after her birth, Vysoka died in 'The Scarlet War' in the claws of an Ember Dragon. Ever since then, Zashchita has been very defensive and not the least bit shy. She has hidden a deadly need for revenge, until once in a while, when dragons find themselves flinching away from her eyes that burn with a blue flame, threatening to engulf them.
