Script Dragons are named for the markings along their wings and sides that look almost like calligraphy. The patterns correspond to no known language, and are slightly different on every dragon. These dragons only develop the characteristic markings when they reach maturity, and they are fairly capable with magic once the patterns appear.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Jenskel jumped at the chance to attend Prazal's Academy for Inconvenient Talents and Odd Specialties, despite not fitting either qualification. With every ancestor up to her great-grandparents being a script, guardian of nature, arcana, zyumorph, avatar of change, or sinomorph, her bloodline contains, as she puts it, a "dangerous amount of special," so she had been expecting to break out in inconveniences since her wings grew in. So far, the only special thing about her is her heritage, but her vast repertoire of family stories have been surprisingly useful, while years of chaotic family gatherings allow her to keep calm in the midst of chaos.
