Dorsal Dragons are so named because they have large fins along their backs that can be raised and lowered at will. They use these fins to regulate body temperature; they raise them to cool off when they become overheated. The bright colors on the fins double as a means of attracting mates.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Bulfirion is the second oldest dragon and a close friend of Solanari's. However, he's quite the grouch. It's quite difficult to strike up a conversation with him, and he prefers to keep to himself. Bulfirion has never been particularly rude, even when somebody is rude to him, and he's certainly not a mean dragon. Even though he tends to distance himself from others, he loves his mate, Feniora, and his children above all else. Bulfirion has had two other mates, Virlarna and Glimmer, and two other children, Balfrin and Ozdekaru, but he and Feniora have become permanent mates. Their three children, Ikaea, Carunoa, and Luvashi are very close to their parents. Even though he may seem cold, Bulfirion really has a big heart. It just took Feniora's gentle, kind nature to bring it out.
