Vampire Dragons are members of the undead. They sustain themselves by drinking the blood of others. It is said that they are only “alive” at night, and seem dead or asleep during the day, as they cannot endure sunlight for long periods of time. Vampire Dragons can only reproduce by changing the eggs of other dragons, puncturing the shell with their fangs and injecting venom that kills the baby inside.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Jhandi's Awakening, commonly known as Jhandi, is a wise, old soul. She is really quite young, and is considered very beautiful by her mate, Enim of The Mountain (Enim). Despite the fact that she is a vamp dragon, she is kind and gentle and majestic. However, if her loved ones are threatened, she will protect them with a vengeance. Xavier was reluctant to let a badly wounded Vamp dragon into his Clan, but he was wise enough to see what she could do for Enim, a troubled soul. He was right. As her wings healed from the attack of Black dragons that obliterated her old clan, Enim himself healed along with her. For a while Jhandi grieved, broken in spirit by the massacre of her Clan, especially her sister-of-the-spirit, Deonadre Shining Eyes. But Enim wept with her, and shared her sorrow, and the strong minded dragon began to forgive and forget.
