Vampire Dragons are members of the undead. They sustain themselves by drinking the blood of others. It is said that they are only “alive” at night, and seem dead or asleep during the day, as they cannot endure sunlight for long periods of time. Vampire Dragons can only reproduce by changing the eggs of other dragons, puncturing the shell with their fangs and injecting venom that kills the baby inside.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

When a mother discovers that one of her young has been transformed into a vampire, the usual reaction is to toss the egg away from the nest--or outright destroy it. But this creature was lucky. Her mother, filled with grief over what she had failed to prevent, vowed she would never fail her child again--and she hasn't. Not only did she raise her to be a kind and intelligent young dragon, she also taught her morals, and her daughter feeds solely on the blood of animals. Others didn't fail to notice the gentleness of this normally dangerous creature, and she's now as much at home in the clan as is her mother, spending her nights happily serving the tribe as a scout. But even then, her toothy smile has still been known to startle others on occasion!
