Albino Dragons are so named because their translucent, scale-less skin lacks all pigment. Instead, to help protect their bodies from the sun, they are coated in an oily secretion that blocks the sun’s harmful rays. The call of an albino dragon is similar to a barn owl--a shriek instead of a roar.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Veskani is an Albino, as anyone can plainly see. She has a rare condition where she doesn't produce enough oil to protect her from harsh sunlight. So she has adopted a nocturnal sleep pattern to protect herself from nasty sunburns, Veskani also likes that other creatures such as humans can't tell her call from the owls who live near her den, which is nearby a place called The Crossing, that Tender Talon calls home. During the day, her master will visit her, rubbing a special kind of grease on Veskani's hide to help make up for the oil that Veskani cannot produce herself. Whether it helps, neither of them knows. But when Veskani DOES get sunburned, she lets out a special warbling shriek that Tender Talon has learned to mean that Veskani is in pain, and she comes to tend to her ailing dragon.
