Horse Dragons have equine-shaped bodies and hooves instead of claws, which allow them to be fast runners. They specialize in running takeoffs, which are quicker than taking off from a stand-still. Horse dragons are able to stalk their prey from the ground then quickly execute an aerial attack for the kill.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Sorell, child of the gentle Eleuia and proud Devin, proudly bares his surname, unlike his father. He feels genuine nobility in the humility the last name bares, stating it "keeps him from getting a swelled head". However, being the child of a Christmas dragon, he does have a bit of a pompous air about him that dulls the morals and chivalry his father taught him, and only the reminder of his silly surname will make him realize how foolish he's acting considering he inherited his mother's breed. Her gentleness has made this sometimes pompous air easy to forgive, since he tries to adopt this mannerism with all others, even humans. His grandparents have also taught him acceptance, and he tries to go into all situations with an open mind.
