Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Often known simply as 'The Devourer', Verschlingt is somewhat infamous for her nasty habit of eating those of her own species. Starting with her mate, and then her children, she is convinced that eating other dragons will grant her strength and cunning she would otherwise lack. The very act of bringing down such powerful prey has strengthened these regardless of her crazed beliefs, but attempting to convince her of that would not be wise. Blows to her body and skull have left her crooked both physically and mentally, and drool, blood and incoherent ramblings often dribble out of her mouth. Perhaps her hatchlings were lucky- this is not a creature one would want as a mother.
