Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

A small yellow dot could be seen sitting up in a tree if one looked real hard. Destined to Fly sighed. His small wings were curled against his even smaller body as he gazed up at the sky. Larger dragons soared and dove above him, having the privilege of flying. Destined to Fly knew he should be grateful for at least having wings but he thought if he had wings should be at least able to use them!!! Tears of frustration ran down his cheeks as he glared at his useless wings. His green eyes filled with anger and sorrow. HE should be the one up there flying. HE was Destined to Fly...
