Neotropical Dragons are a breed that originate in rainforests. They are fun-loving and enjoy lounging on tree branches, eating whatever fruit they find. They are also often found sunning themselves on rocks, using their large wings to soak up the rays. In the summer, males compete for mates by showing off their striped wings and gliding in spirals down the tree trunks. It is said that the larger the wings, the more likely the male will attract a suitable mate.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Jade Jaguar is one of his tamer's more peaceful dragons, subsisting only on fruits that he finds among the trees. Because the cave is a considerable distance from the rainforests that he frequents, Jade will usually leave the cave early in the morning, then return in the early afternoon, having satisfied his hunger for the day. Sometimes, he will bring a few fruits back with him for other dragons and for his tamer. His gentle nature is what makes him such an endearing dragon, and his aversion to violence makes him a pacifist in every sense of the word. Of course, is he feels his life or tamer is threatened, he can make quite a vicious display, though he lacks the power of some of the larger dragons to actually defend his human tamer. Regardless of this, his tamer cares deeply for him and their bond has been strong since he was a baby.
