Sunset Dragons are closely related to sunrise dragons. However, their behaviors differ greatly. Sunset Dragons generally live alone or in small packs. They are more active in the evening, hunting and performing all of their daily tasks as the sun sets.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Barit-Atum, "Boat of the Sun in the Evening", is a quiet and introspective dragon who loves to meditate or study while the sun progresses through the sky. As evening nears, her meditation becomes action, and she performs a daily ritual dance in honor of the sunset before she goes for her twilight hunt. During part of the dance, it appears that she is carrying the sun for a time on her wings, which shine gorgeously with the reflection. She is rarely directly seen at other times by humans or even other dragons, as she is a very private dragon. However, her reputation for wisdom is so great that many, both dragon and human, seek to learn from her secondhand via the memory-impressions she has stored with her clan's memory-keeping dragon, Mnemosyne Memoria.
