Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. Its belly is bright red and it is most active in the evening.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Twilight would like to set a few things straight.  For one thing, she is scared to death of vampires and stays far, far away from them, as would any self-respecting hatchling who has smelled one's breath.  For another, her blue and red scales are not conducive to sparkling, and so she leaves that to the Silvers and Golds.  She has no fondness for apples (except to eat) or chess pieces (except to play with) and she considers stalking to be disturbing, not romantic.  Lions and lambs are both for eating, although one is far easier to catch, especially if they are as stupid as described. She's gotten rather irritated about this whole business and spends most of her time in her cave being a proper dragon, hoarding the small pile of gold which dazzles her frequently.
