Magma Dragons are capable of withstanding the intense temperatures of their element. They live in volcanic regions, their bodies coated in the red hot magma which clings to their scales. They must leave the lava fields in order to hunt, although they require surprisingly little food to sustain their lumbering mass.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Amaterasu was named after the Shinto sun goddess Amaterasu, meaning "shining in heaven".

She is quite a violent and loves fighting dragons, enjoying setting fire and watching everything fall to ash. Usually, she remains in a cave which is located underneath a volcano of a island. Almost everyone who comes near her cave, regardless if human, dragon or animal, becomes the victim of her lethal, black fire. It is said that her flames cannot be extinguished by water.

Unexpectedly, she has a soft spot for human children and dragon hatchlings. Therefore, if they come close to her cave, Amaterasu will not harm them, but reward them with a gold coin for their visit.
