Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

The forests around Kad's clan cave are usually scattered patches of foliage amidst charred trunks and leaf litter. Kad's magma and red dragons continually refuse responsibility for the devastation, but Luciya knows otherwise. As an activist against dragon-caused forest fires, she's developed thick skin, both metaphorically and literally. She has yet to keep the "ignorant flamers" from turning the woods orange each summer, but she's making slow progress against the practice of using squirrels there as firing targets. (Missing the targets has great consequences on dried-out bushes.)

As another part of her campaign, she loosely works with Daellia to encourage inside cooking. Daellia now regrets allowing Luciya to "help her gain business" and sometimes whispers to reluctant dragons to just go back outside.
