Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Sable Quean means 'Dark Woman.' Sable Quean had a very bad reputation in her youth for going over to the Rath clan camp and stealing younglings, eggs and hatchlings alike. Her mischief brought the Towa clan (Sable Quean's own clan), and the Rath clan, Towa's rival, to the brink of a war. Sable Quean took an immense liking to one of the hatchlings she stole, a little Mint hatchling named Sorairo. When a sudden storm strikes while Sable Quean is stealing Sorairo, Sorairo is tragically killed by a fallen branch that sends the stronger and older Sable Quean into a two-week coma. When she awakens and finds that Sorairo was killed because of her, she is heartbroken. Sable Quean has never stolen a hatchling since, and she vows to name her firstborn son Sorairo, after the Mint hatchling who lost his only chance at life.
