Feisty and energetic, Whiptail Dragons pride themselves on their speed and agility. It is not unusual to see several whiptails racing each other. Though fragile, they can easily evade attacks with their superior speed, and often use their long tails as a weapon, giving rise to their name.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Yoyen, a constantly angry whiptail dragon, has few friends because of his attitude. The reason he is always angry is because he is disappointed in his ability to race properly. Every time Yoyen tries to run, his lungs start to burn and he has to stop and take a breather. It's not that he's out of shape, it's just a long-term side effect of a lung virus Yoyen had when he was little. Because of Yoyen's disappointment in himself, he acts harshly and turns other dragons away. When he turns others away, he cuts himself off from one of the few things that can make him feel better- friendship. Since he has no friends, he feels more disappointed in himself. It's a never-ending circle of disappointment and sadness, and Yoyen does not look like he will break out of it anytime soon.
