And look! It has gotten bigger. It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Diamond Dawn Winds took a while to hatch from her egg. When she finally hatched, her growth was slow, and she stopped growing at a young age. Her mother was worried, but her father said it was nothing to worry about. Now Diamond helps her parents take care of chores around their cave, especially when they're out hunting. Diamond is a little standoffish when dragons comment on her small size, but she's otherwise quiet and calm.
