Dorsal Dragons are so named because they have large fins along their backs that can be raised and lowered at will. They use these fins to regulate body temperature; they raise them to cool off when they become overheated. The bright colors on the fins double as a means of attracting mates.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

A silent dirt path is covered by darkness on one moonless night, not a single creature is on the road. Then a clumsy chicken walks across it, unaware that it's being watched by crimson eyes. In a flash of purple and black, the chicken is in the jaws of Fluio! Fluio has the quickest reactions in her cave, she uses her large fins to catch the wind just right to give her a speed boost. The other dragons watch her, and try to mimic it. At night time, Acumotari goes out to hunt, so does Koutarri, but as they walk outside, a flash of Crimson rushes past them. Fluio uses her crimson eyes to see at night and catches a lot of prey.
