Gold dragons are the ones most often killed by humans, who consider their scales to be extremely valuable. These golden scales grant them a high level of protection, similar to armor, and they use this to their advantage in battle.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

The beloved companion of a most gentle princess, this dragon has had one job and one job only since birth: to defend his charge. As far as observers can tell, however, he spends most of his time playing with the princess instead of doing anything productive, romping around with her in the gardens and taking her on long flights into the countryside, giggling and getting into trouble all the while. What they don't see, however, is the work he does in darker times; more than one would-be political assassin has crept into the princess's golden chambers at night only to come face-to-face with this dragon, the powerful Gold ending their lives with a snarling roar and a single devastating strike.
