Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Caelius is the sole child of Fabrizia and Brutus. Because of his father's role in Taylin government, his existence is hidden from the public, as high-ranking officials are chosen by heredity, but the children are separated from the parents to insure a commoner's upbringing and the humility it provides. Caelius spends his time among the orphans due to this, and he hides his identity by using his mother's former surname, Serafini. He is also in the habit of concealing his identity through disguises and voices, even running around as a female. He is a daring individual of much talent and charisma, equally charming and dexterous. He has been honing his skill along side his "sister", Kenna, as they both wish to travel beyond the barriers once they fall.
