Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Hecate, one of Kataskiazo's rare daughters, is an odd, solitary creature for the most part. She serves in the Seraphin army, like most black dragons, with a male lancer, Kyrie, as her companion. Unlike many dragons, she is entirely in love with another female dragon, and refuses all males who approach her.<br/>A thin, wiry, scarred dragon, Hecate fears that the dragon she loves the most—Yatzirah—will never pay her the attention she craves. Her battle prowess is equal to that of her fierce mother, Kataskiazo, and she often wonders if battle is all she has to offer the lovely skywing, who seems aloof and disinterested in her, to her eyes.
