And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing. It’s learned to use its new wings quickly and you now have a hard time keeping it on the ground.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Penurious is named that because he gendered wrong. Technically it was not "wrong", but the clan and Lonny wanted him to be female. His punishment was that his name was to be Penurious, which means stingy. He was also frozen so he would never breed. He doesn't like being a hatchling. It feels like that he's stuck being small and almost powerless. He doesn't celebrate his birthday, he just counts on and on how many years he has lived. Now, he is used to his small size. Which, makes it even better for hunting.
