Holiday dragons are a very mysterious breed. They are only seen during winter, and even then it is hard to catch a glimpse of one. They are responsible for the general cheer that spreads during the holidays. In essence, they are the “Spirits of Winter.”

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Maianie is a motherly dragon, although she deals best with very young hatchlings or newly-matured dragons. She appears to be constantly agitated about one thing or another at any given time, be it a sickness going around the cave, keeping the vampires away from the eggs, her sickly firstborn, misbehaving hatchlings, or simply a fly buzzing around her head. (While this is sometimes rather amusing, it tends to annoy the other dragons a great deal.) However, occasionally she has been observed to be utterly serene and calm, usually while sharing a quiet moment with her mate, children, or just-hatched young ones. Despite being an excellent cook (as far as her limited tools and resources allow), she can't stand the smell of most conventional seasonings, which has led to more than a few interesting meals for those in the cave who like their meals cooked.
