Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Illius is the fourth to take on the Skiesroam name, despite being unrelated to Daggarath, Arachel, or Keyah Skiesroam. But as a magi in this particular cave, it was necessary that he belonged to a clan, so Arachel adopted him after he hatched. Illius does not like the clan elder Daggarath in particular since Daggarath is very demanding of his clan. Illius enjoys the taste of ducks, and often employs Kaigun Nessu, the water hatchling, to fetch some for him. One day, he hopes to leave the cave like his aunt Keyah.
