Dorsal Dragons are so named because they have large fins along their backs that can be raised and lowered at will. They use these fins to regulate body temperature; they raise them to cool off when they become overheated. The bright colors on the fins double as a means of attracting mates.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Carmine Crest is completely dependent on Daring Dancer emotionally. Although Carmine Crest has everything going for her, she never had any self-confidence. She was always shy, reserved, and embarrassed. Daring Dancer recognized her weakness and saw someone that could fulfill her needs. She became friends with Carmine Crest to have a friend to giggle with and receive compliments from, but thats all she seems to want. The friendship seems to mean nothing else to her but a few laughs and some confidence boosters. On the other hand, Carmine Crest is truly convinced that Daring Dancer is the most beautiful and intelligent dragon in the cave. It helps her confidence to believe that she is the best friend of the best dragon in the cave. Although their friendship is warped, it is necessary for Carmine Crest. Without it she would feel depressed and worth nothing, and maybe deep inside Daring Dancer needs Carmine Crest just as much.
