Gold dragons are the ones most often killed by humans, who consider their scales to be extremely valuable. These golden scales grant them a high level of protection, similar to armor, and they use this to their advantage in battle.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Peaceful and slow to anger, Hohenheim hates fighting and is rather abysmal at it, despite the extra protection of his scales. He is a learned scholar of alchemy, the magic of turning one element to another. He brought this skill to the Dusk Divide Keep when he arrived as a loner with nothing to his name. He quickly gained students, though none as proficient as him. The alchemy he teaches is medical, although others have adapted it to more violent tactics.

He does not disclose the reason of his vast expertise, brushing it off as his old age, though he looks quite young. He has no permanent mate yet and is a bit of a wanderer.
