Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Patch of Night is, essentially, the head of his colony. Being the oldest dragon of the early grouping, he seems to have been forced into the position rather than earning it. His leadership has survived several younger challengers, and the newer additions to the colony generally accept this fact- the only instances are brief scuffles of dominance which are quickly put down. Contrary to this, Patch appears to be a somewhat laid-back creature, though is highly aggressive when confronted by outsiders. He is unafraid to attack other dragons that pose a threat, whether via tooth-and-claw or with magic (though he prefers the former). However, he does seem to have a soft spot for hatchlings, and can frequently be found guarding their nests and fretting over the eggs.
