Sunbeam Drakes are the diurnal counterparts to Moonglow Drakes, their eggs having been laid during the daylight hours. They are around the size of a small dog, and while docile, can be flighty and easily startled. Most can be found high in treetops enjoying the bright sunlight, tucking themselves away at the first sign of a storm or impending nightfall. Sunbeam Drakes enjoy flying in the light of the sun, and their treetop dances are beautiful, dazzling, and serene.

Though it may appear at first that dragons and drakes have much in common, the two are completely separate species. Drakes are smaller and less intelligent than their cousin species, though both dragons and drakes sit comfortably near the top of the food chain. They are always found bearing antlers and leathery wings. Drakes share many of the same habitats that dragons do, and typically hunt in packs.

Up with the sun each day, Stagnating Dawn is currently the 'mediator' between the Day Glory Drakes, the Night Glory Drakes, and the humans whose settlements border their territory. Through the use of some truly impressive vocal and miming skills and (astonishingly) a limited grasp of the human language and some basic concepts, she is beginning to ease the tensions which have been a problem (most especially between the Night Glory Drakes and the Humans).
