Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It’s extremely curious and seems to enjoy exploring the area around it.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Squeak, like his friend Bubbles, had an eternally hard start to life. He had always been very small, and had been protected by his brother and his previous master. Then, one day, his master took his blade and stabbed his brother, watching the life slowly leave his eyes as he stared at the master, wondering why he betrayed the young hatchling. Squeak cowered as the master came towards him with the blade, covered in his brother's blood. He dodged, and then fled out into the wilderness. There is where he bumped into his best friend, a balloon dragon who goes by the name Bubbles, whose brother had also been killed. They survived for a few months, but then Squeak became extremely ill. Bubbles went out and found Relix, the leader of a group of dragons, who took him in. Squeak never got over his fear of humans, so his new master rarely saw him. She made a memorial to her young one's brother, and no one who has seen it has forgotten him.
