Cheese Dragons are not actually alive. They are enchanted items of food that act almost identically to dragons. They have no need to eat, but they must “live” in humid environments or they will dry out and harden.

When Swisston was a wee egg, he. . . sat there. But one day, when he was in the cave, a dozen mice saw and encircled him! With beady black eyes they stared as they began to advance on him. The drool from their pointy-fanged little mouths left a dozen slimy trails on the stone floor. But that's when Hannah came and snatched him up from the cave, greatly excited to have found a cheese dragon. Now he lives in happy harmony with Hannah's other dragons. Sometimes, though, the others poke a little fun and call him "Mice-Bait" or "Rodent-Prey," but Swisston doesn't mind it so much, as long as Hannah is there to scold the rascals.
