Royal Blue dragons are a nocturnal breed who prefer to live high in the mountains near slow-moving water that reflects the night sky. Although quite capable of defending themselves, they are peaceful by nature and will avoid a fight whenever possible.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Midnight Wiles lives for the night. She always flies by moonlight because she knows that it is the most flattering type of illumination on her scales. The other reason is because she is paid to keep tabs on Sunny Santiago's whereabouts for Dark Grizzle, and most of his illicit activities happen at night. Currently, he thinks she works for him, serving as a bouncer for his underground nightclub, The Quick Wing. It is hard living a double life as she is not able to have a mate or any close friends, and is always worried about being found out as an agent of the Empress by one of Sunny's informants. Luckily, Dark Grizzle has said that if the new police branch opens up, Midnight can retire to training undercover dragons instead of being on active duty. Her pension can not be close enough as she tires of watching endangered species served on platters as the "nightly female dragons" entertain Sunny's males who rob and intimidate the average dragons of Wayside Haven.
