Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It’s very light and enjoys bouncing all around.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Elmer the Balloon Prince is really quite unusual. He was found floating at the top of the abandoned pile, rescued by one of his clan's dragons before the other clans' dragons could get their greedy claws all over him. After he was examined by the white dragons, they made a shocking discovery—Elmer the Balloon Prince was already matured and stuffed full of views...even though he was still supposed to be a tiny little hatchling! News quickly spread around about how fast Elmer the Balloon Prince had grown, and about how famous he was—apparently, he got over 5,000 visits and matured in one day!

One day, Elmer saw some of his fellow clan dragons guarding the camp, hunting, and patrolling, and he decided that since he was a prince, he should be frozen. Because, after all, a prince should never have to do those lowly chores! Eventually, he was granted that wish because the white dragons worried about him getting sick from too many visits.
