Ultraviolet Dragons are a heat-loving breed that are most commonly found in hot, arid environments. These hardy dragons are omnivorous and will eat both plant and animal matter, even species with thorny physical defenses such as cacti. They are generally peaceful and often quite friendly, but males will become aggressive and cantankerous during the breeding season. Intense fights take place over females, sometimes resulting in injury for both combatants.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Hiala, a Republicator Ultraviolet, is a full-blooded pacifist. She will never harm a living thing--save for what she has to eat--and openly states her dislike of other dragons' violent behavior towards other creatures. This has caused quite a bit of annoyance for most of the Republicators, as many of them are required to fight the Separators over trespassers on the Border. Some believe that Hiala just wants to annoy them on purpose, perhaps for personal amusement, while others think that she might be slightly crazy.

Just because she is a pacifist doesn't mean she won't pull pranks on other dragons here and there. Hiala has a secret, a secret that no one can ever find out about. During the new moon, when the night is pitch black, she will sneak over to the Separators and, with the help of Gyol, Floofy, and Dray, will set about painting many of the Separators, dressing up Grievous, and making the nightmares of Autumn come true with hot pink paint. Then she slips away into the night...
