Serrati Wyverns are a fierce breed of dragon typically found in volcanic areas or in desert scrubland. With their keen vision, these fearsome predators can pick out well-camouflauged prey from the slightest movement. They are named for the double rows of serrated teeth that line their beaks, which allow these wyverns to maintain an unbreakable grip on prey while they tear into their target with deadly hooked claws. Though these dragons are combative with nearly everything, they are surprisingly well-mannered when raising their offspring in communal nests. Males, however, tend to be chased off as soon as eggs are laid.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Gemi's mother is a purebred Golden Wyvern from the land of Kirkton. She abandoned her egg because in her society it is forbidden to breed with other dragons. They do this because they have powerful magic abilities and want to keep this power among themselves as to not let anybody abuse the power. Gemi's father watched over him until he grew his wings, then simply flew off in the middle of the night. Gemi grew up extremely sad and full of anger for both of his parents. He felt abandoned and took his depression and rage out on small villages. As he was destroying a village, a young mage tried to kill him using magic, and Gemi was able to absorb his magic and shoot it back at him three times as powerful. He ended up destroying the village using his newly discovered magical talents. Gemi then decided that he should test his talents on towns and cities, and one day become powerful enough to destroy the land of Kirkton.
