Holiday dragons are a very mysterious breed. They are only seen during winter, and even then it is hard to catch a glimpse of one. They are responsible for the general cheer that spreads during the holidays. In essence, they are the “Spirits of Winter.”

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Initially, Gloss Wing wished to settle on the island home of Shield Tail and Dark Drakon's dragon herd, since he heard that the island was already home to five other subspecies of Christmas dragons and he felt that he'd be well-received there. However, while all of the dragons in the herd did their best to make Gloss Wing feel welcome there, he still quickly came to realize he couldn't ever claim the place as home. True to the nature of all Wrapping-Wings, Gloss Wing was constantly trying to take over the task of decorating the island during special occasions, a role that was already being filled by the Laurel Trio. After a number of disputes had sprung up because of this, Christmas Starwing suggested that Gloss Wing might be better off joining Ficus Bough's dragon clan in the jungle, since that clan had no dragon among them who was adept at holiday decorating. This suggestion was accepted, and Gloss Wing finally found his true home.
