Seasonal Dragons take on the characteristics of the season during which they are born. Thus, eggs that are laid in spring match the pink flowers and green buds of spring, and those that are laid in the summer grow to depict the bright green of the forest trees and the yellow of the sun. Eggs laid in autumn display the bright colors of leaves falling from trees, and those that are laid during winter take on the appearance of the icy snow.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Hours had passed and still no sign of their adversaries. Well, not a visual anyways. There was the occasional scraping sound or bone fragment scattered around the floor. No sign of Meiko either.

She'd only briefly known him. He was a good kid, fiercely loyal to his clan, Nebbia. Back home, his first clutch had just hatched. She'd promised him that she'd look out for him. If anything went wrong, she vowed, she would make sure his family was taken care of.

She remembered fighting back to back with him. She recalled the startled sound he'd made when they both plummeted along with forty other dragons. She could still hear the horrific sound he made when he first tried to move his leg afterwards.

She should have looked after him. She hadn't really thought to check on him till she'd heard that horrible screech.

Meiko was the first dragon to fall. She was caught between mourning for him and longing to reek vengeance on the Velha for ending killing him.
