Guardian Dragons have large shields on the end of their tails. Although the shields appear to be heavy, they are light, yet nearly unbreakable. Guardian Dragons use their tail-shields, as well as their wings, to deflect attacks and protect others. Often, they will guard the eggs and hatchlings of a nest while others are away. They are generally peaceful, and will not retaliate unless necessary. They have no need to forage or hunt, as they are fed by those they protect.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Lunatio, a guardian dragon, received her name when there was a total lunar eclipse. There is a myth in the guardian dragons history about special dragons born to protect certain parts of nature, such as the earth, the sea, the clouds, the moon, etc. Though it is only a myth, most of the guardian dragons put much faith in it, often wishing a certain mythical dragon to aid them in some way. As soon as Lunatio hatched and the moon turned red, everyone had their attention diverted away from the baby dragon. Curious as to why no one was paying her attention, Lunatio climbed up on a rock and screeched loudly, trying to find her mother. It was just at that moment that the eclipse ended and the moon returned to it's normal color. The other dragons celebrated, believing a great disaster was averted. Lunatio was always treated special after that, and she is proud to be called 'the guardian of the moon'.
