Paper Dragons are not truly living creatures. They are pieces of parchment enchanted by magic, and as such, are very vulnerable to fire. However, they behave almost like dragons. The only place where their behavior differs is breeding: paper dragons cannot breed.

Kokuji likes to pretend that he is something of a scholar, when in truth he can't even read. He is often found in the company of either Whyte or Starmaker, as he highly respects and adores the two family leaders.

Because of his tiny size, Kokuji can sneak into places where the other dragons can not enter, making him a rather effective spy. Whyte regularly sends him to human settlements in order to eavesdrop and discover what the humans surrounding the territory are thinking. He has never been caught, as any human that sees him thinks he is only a scrap of paper that has been caught by the wind.

Kokuji loves gossiping and often tells the other dragons what he overhears, even when he is not supposed to. This sometimes gets him in trouble and he is made to help Myrn with her work as punishment. He doesn't mind this too much, but Myrn repeatedly forgets that he is a living creature and uses him as a bookmark, leaving him trapped between the pages for several days at a time.
