Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It shrieks for food everytime you get close.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

This orphaned young dragon was taken in by a wizard who thought having a dragon in his service would be useful. Unfortunately, as much as the man knew about magic, he was rather lacking in knowledge about dragons (a fatal mistake among mages, considering dragons are so closely associated with the arcane!), and chose a rather poor breed to try to befriend. Faced with a young wyvern that was growing increasingly bloodthirsty and hard to control, and afraid that she'd remember him and seek vengeance later if he set her free, he fell back on his last resort: trapping her forever in the body of a hatchling. Outraged by what had been done to her, but too small to do much about it, she now lingers around his home like a belligerent bat. Most of the chaos she causes involves ripping up spellbooks and knocking over potions, but she dreams always of getting a chance to sneak up on the wizard unawares and chew out his throat.
