Seasonal Dragons take on the characteristics of the season during which they are born. Thus, eggs that are laid in spring match the pink flowers and green buds of spring, and those that are laid in the summer grow to depict the bright green of the forest trees and the yellow of the sun. Eggs laid in autumn display the bright colors of leaves falling from trees, and those that are laid during winter take on the appearance of the icy snow.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

LastFall is a pessimist. He finds the tarnish on the shiniest gold coins and does not think very highly of himself. He was an abandoned egg and has carried that mindset his entire life. Feeling worthless and unwanted, he used to spend his days quivering in a corner of the cave. That was until a beautiful yellow dragon came to him. She was kind to him, she sat with him, she cared for him. Slowly, he opened his heart to her and accepted her as a friend. Now it has become something more. When he is with her his thoughts do not trouble him. Her singing makes him feel safe and her twinkling eyes make him feel complete. She is a pygmy dragon and he is aware that they will never be able to fill the cave with their offspring, but he does not care. He does not need a lot of hatchlings. He has her. Some dragons mock him for loving someone smaller than him but he pays them no mind. He knows that even if her body is small, her heart is bigger than any other dragon's in the cave.
