Ridgewing Dragons live just below the snow level on the upper slopes of mountains. They are a friendly, playful breed and enjoy dancing in wind currents near their homes or plummeting down into valleys from great heights. Their wings, by far their most striking feature, grow in fin-like ridges along their backs. While their bodies lack markings to blend better with their surroundings, a ridgewing’s wings have bright markings in the colors of the flowers that grow in their mountain habitat. Occasionally different-colored individuals can be found, but they are rare because their striking coloring offers little protection.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Queenie was born as a royal dragon of the Ridgewing Community, her pack. They said she was so lucky to be the new queen. But, as she was growing up, she had a blue wing, and she was more common then most other dragons, so she got a replacement. In the ridgewing community dragons are judged by how dark the stripe on their wing is. And male ridgewings are known to be light and females are dark. So it was rare that Queenie's replacement had a tan stripe. The other dragons thought that it was so rare that she deserved to be queen. Queenie agued and did anything she could to be royal again. She took it too far and tried to kill her replacement, and she got banned from the community. She ran away, and her replacement, Amethyst, escaped, too. Now, with the war between dragons with human masters and ones in packs, Queenie wants revenge so she found a human master and lead several attacks against her home community. She and Amethyst became friends and got a human master named Violet.
