Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Having a prestigious lineage and being named for the generous soul who gifted him to Lagie, Z Mod is unusual for a dragon in that he has a coffee addiction. This works out well in Lagie's cave as Lagie is herself a coffee drinker. Many of Lagie's other dragons don't understand the compulsion Z Mod has to drink coffee, but they don't realize that coffee was the first smell he remembers. As a wee hatchling in Z's cave, Z Mod daringly tried Z's coffee one day and instantly fell in love with the beverage. Now he spends much of his day lurking about the kitchen, drinking as much as he possibly can, often in the company of the mint dragon, Coffee in That Nebula.

When he's not seeking coffee, Z Mod lurks around the edges of the cave, making the other dragons a little nervous. They're never sure whether to include him in their conversations or not. Lagie always assures them he's friendly but the dragons believe Z Mod's eyes will spit fire if he's angered so they generally leave him alone.
