Guardian Dragons have large shields on the end of their tails. Although the shields appear to be heavy, they are light, yet nearly unbreakable. Guardian Dragons use their tail-shields, as well as their wings, to deflect attacks and protect others. Often, they will guard the eggs and hatchlings of a nest while others are away. They are generally peaceful, and will not retaliate unless necessary. They have no need to forage or hunt, as they are fed by those they protect.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

As a guardian dragon, Grand Guardian flew over the countryside watching for trouble and assuring things were in order. One day, he sensed a small boy in need of help. Grand Guardian sought out the small boy. He found the boy huddled in a corner of a tiny shack. From that day on, he became known as Joshua's Protector and remains at the small boys side warding off the evil that torments the small boy.

Joshua's Protector is tame and friendly with humans, unless he senses any threat to Joshua. He can be seen flying over the countryside with Joshua perched on his back. Oftentimes, Joshua's Protector will wrap his massive wings around the boy to give him comfort from the internal nightmares that continue to torment him. Joshua's Protector hunts to provide Joshua and himself with food. Bringing both berries and fruits from trees as well as small animals he catches.
