Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It enjoys swimming in a nearby pond.

And look! Its fins and tail have gotten bigger, and you’ve moved it to a larger body of water to swim in. It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Evaporite was found after a huge flood many miles from the river he had called home.  The flood waters had retreated, leaving him in a rapidly shrinking mud puddle near the cave of a magi dragon pair and all the frozen hatchlings living with them.  It was several of these hatchlings that found the exhausted Evaporite and, working together, carried the hatchling to a pond so he could be nursed back to health.  During his recovery, he decided that he liked living in the pond where he could spend time with his new friends, so he asked the magi dragoness Crocoitia to freeze him one morning as she drank at the pond.  Evaporite has been happy ever sense.
