Frilled Dragons are smaller than most other breeds, but when threatened, they stretch out their wings and frills to appear larger. They generally do not like to fight and prefer hiding to confrontation. Frilled dragons live in small groups and often band together to scare off potential threats. Males also use their frills as a way to attract mates, with those displaying the “best” frills being more likely to breed.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Zalaa, twin sister of Zeemak, is almost always with her sister. They hunt together, eat together, and both have the same interests. However, Zalaa is a little less bubbly than Zeemak, and likes to spend some time alone sometimes. She can often be seen just outside of cave Ember, or on one of the ledges above the cave entrance, staring into space, wearing a slight frown. At these moments, any dragon who disturbs her is sure to get a few sharp words and a nip on the leg. Zalaa has become rather attached to the young Nalaa, and was delighted when she requested her name be like "Auntie" Zalaa's. She was dismayed and didn't eat or move for days when Nalaa was brought back into the cave bedraggled and bloody, apparently having wandered into the cave of wild dragons who smelt the human on her and attacked. Luckily, Ezarana was able to save her, but only by freezing her. Zalaa was so relieved she swore to be Nalaa's guardian for as long as she lived lest she fall to even more harm.
